The Stoneworks will be located at 8B Church Street, a Grade II listed building where renovations have revealed original features which will be preserved and restored.

The intended use of the former Ladbrokes betting shop is a three phase split into morning/afternoon/evening trade, according to the licensing application submitted by Page and Saldana Hospitality Ltd, city men Sean Page and Steve Saldana, who runs the Bexar Country Brewery.

In the morning it will be a coffee house, as an alternative to the chains within the city centre.

In the afternoon, it will become a bottle shop. The interest in craft beer has been astronomic over the past few years and the Stoneworks will provide off trade sales for members of the public who wish to enjoy high quality craft beer at home.

And in the evening The Stoneworks will become a small bar that focuses on high quality product.

The main offering will be craft beer served out of a keg - opening with 10 different keg lines - to provide a large selection of craft beer from many different breweries.

As with many modern craft beer focused bars, it will offer thirds, halves, two-thirds and pints, due to the higher gravity of some of these beers,.

It will also sell a small range of bottled and boxed cider, wine by the glass (around six variations) and an even smaller offering of original 1920s vintage cocktails .

Foodwise, the plan is to offer a range of bar snacks (artisan meat sticks, olives, nuts, crisps etc) for those customers looking for something small to snack on. For the customers looking for something a little more substantial there will be cold cheese, meat and bread platters.

An innovative range of events will include niche subject matter quizzes, Video Game league nights, educational talks and tastings .

“ With the centre of Peterborough going though massive transformations and attracting large interest from national restaurant chains, we aim for The Stoneworks to be a place for the public to visit as part of a larger ‘night out’. We belive that many customers visiting ther surrounding restaurants who desire a drink before or after dinner will choose The Stoneworks as a location,” says the lince application.

The city council is currently considering a planning application covering change of use of the building, and a licensing application to serve alcohol from 9am .

It is also dealing with the change of use of a former pharmacy in Westgate to a micro pub, proposed by Coalheavers Arms landlord Tom Beran, and John Lawrence, who has rejuvenated The Crown Inn, at New England, has outlined his plans for a similar establishment in Peterborough at an as yet unnamed location.
