Back to the 50s

Nene Park Academy returned to the '˜50s with a production of Grease last week

More than 40 students took part in the popular musical, the story of two high school lovebirds set in the 1950s and made famous by the John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John film.

The production is the first full school musical which Nene Park Academy has put on since becoming an academy. The show featured a full-scale Greased Lightning car, an original 1950s Wurlitzer Jukebox, assorted 1950s memorabilia on loan from a parent, and 50s-themed refreshments were available to purchase.

Joe Emery, Head of Music at Nene Park Academy commented: “We chose the musical Grease as it’s a hugely popular show, and contains a great range of songs which lend themselves to different abilities. Performing alongside a live band also adds to the excitement for the students taking part.”

The cast has been working on the show since October 2015 and we’re excited to showcase the

results of all their hard work.”

Steve Howard, Principal of Nene Park Academy said: “This is the first full school musical which we

between students of different ages. Our theatre uses state of the art facilities, which makes a huge

difference to students’ performance. The facility has really inspired our students and enabled them

to flourish.”

Shows take place at Nene Park Academy on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th March at 7pm, and tickets

are available from the main school reception - £5 for adults, £4 for students and children.
