Pet rescuers at Wood Green, The Animals Charity, are celebrating having found new homes for 100 pets over the Christmas holiday.
During the week from Christmas Eve through to New Year’s Eve they rehomed 29 dogs, 47 cats, eight chickens, five rabbits and 11 hamsters, mice or gerbils, from across its four centres.
The Wood Green centre near Peterborough had been inundated with animals whose owners could no longer care for them.
Welfare manager Tracey Bingham said: “While we never want to encourage people to rehome a pet on a festive whim, it can be a good time of year to welcome a new furry or four legged friend into the family, as people have the time to dedicate to settling in their new addition to the family.”
