24-hour football match is a huge success

The charity event, organised by Glenn Vaughan, who runs the One Touch Football Soccer School, attracted footballers of all ages and abilities - for 24-hours of non-stop kick-a-bout.

The match which kicked off at midday on Saturday, was attended by George Robinson - the teenager at the centre of #TeamGeorge.

George hurt while playing rugby for Stamford School in Cape Town, South Africa, on July 27. The impact of going in for a tackle caused a transection of his spinal cord. The #TeamGeorge campaign was started to help with the care of George, who scored the final penalty on Sunday morning - much to the crowd’s delight, driving his wheelchair to hit the ball into the net.

An exhausted Glenn, who played for a total of 15 hours, said: “It was great to have George at the event, he came down both days and seemed really happy to see everyone.

“The whole community has clubbed together to support this brave young lad and I’m pleased to announce that we have raised more than £2,500 for #TeamGeorge.”

Seb Goold, who lost a leg when he fell from a moving bus on his way back from a rugby tournament in April 2014, was also there on the day in support of the event, and met George for the first time.
