Wicked Witch in Ryhall to host raffle for Jack's Journey

Maureen Pettener has organised the fundraising event in aid of Jack’s Journey, set up to help Barnack boy Jack Rickard. It will take place at the Wicked Witch in Ryhall from 4pm on Sunday, February 28.

Jack, six, has been bravely battling the effects of cerebral palsy since he was born. The condition affects muscles in his legs and arms, making it difficult for him to stand up, walk and balance.

Thanks to his determination and effort he has developed better than expected. But his parents Steve and Shona are concerned about the effects his condition may have on his physical health as he grows up.

They want the best for their son, and have been told by doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London that Jack would benefit from a surgery known as selective dorsal rhizotomy. But the procedure is currently under review and may not be available in the UK on the NHS for another three years, by which point Jack will be too old to qualify for it anyway. So they have launched Jack’s Journey to raise the £60,000 they need.

So far more than 30 great raffle prizes have been donated by local businesses. The restaurant will provide food, and Hindmarch garage in Stamford has offered to sponsor the printing of raffle tickets and posters.

The Broken Stones band will play live, followed by Disco Eminence, and both have provided their services free of charge.

As people enter the pub they will be asked to donate a minimum of £5 to come in, which automatically allows them food. Raffle tickets are £1 each or £5 for a book of five.
