The retailer has unveiled proposals for a supermarket on land off Uffington Road with 141 car parking spaces which it said will create 50 new jobs, as well as further employment during construction.

And it said it has written to more than 2,000 local properties inviting residents to attend its virtual public exhibition at www.aldiconsultation.co.uk/stamford.

People will be able to view the plans and provide their feedback via an online questionnaire.

Richard Thompson, regional property director for Aldi, said: “We are delighted to announce our plans to open a new Aldi food store in Stamford. With the nearest stores over nine miles away in Peterborough and Oakham a new store for Stamford will not only mean saving money but travel time too.

“We are excited to bring our award-winning products and fresh produce to the community, improving customer choice and creating much-needed local jobs.
