Homes are where the art is at Peterborough Artists Open Studios

Peterborough Artists' Open Studios gets under way later this month, although city centre visitors may have caught a glimpse of what is on offer last week in Cathedral Square.

Saturday offered a taster of what Open Studios, is all about with a few live demonstrations and the chance to pick up a free brochure detailing the exhibitors many of whom will be displaying their work in their own homes.

This year will see 56 artists showing in 27 locations in and around Peterborough, and the majority of these artists’ work will also be shown at the City Gallery in Priestgate as part of the Open Studios Exhibition.

Some artists have grouped together to share venues making it easier for visitors to view a range of artists in just one go. This year, shared venues include St Mark’s Church on Lincoln Road, City College Peterborough on Brook Street, Black Cab Studios in Deeping St James, Stamford Arts Centre on StMary’s Street and Fotheringhay Village Hall on Main Street.

You will have the opportunity to see many art forms including: textiles, jewellery, ceramics, mosaics, digital art, printing and painting.

The annual exhibition launches with a preview evening on June 23 at the City Gallery and the exhibition continues throughout until July 10 in all three galleries.

This will include over a dozen members who are joining PAOS for the first time this year.

Children from Art Stars will be having an open day on July 9 as part of Peterborough Artists Open Studios. The Cross School in Deeping will stage an exhibition of artwork by young artists. This is an opportunity for visitors to have a go at some different art activities and find out more about who they are and what they offer.

Also as part of PAOS, Art in the Heart, the city centre galley, launches the exhibition Ophelia, which runs from June 25 to July 10.

This exhibition will showcase 26 pieces of work by established Art in the Heart artists.
