Abdul is to donate the profits from his Angel Spice restaurant in Stilton, near Peterborough, Sunday to Wednesday, during the first two weeks of October.

The money is for the NHS in general, but primarily to benefit his local hospital, Peterborough City Hospital.

It is the latest in a long line of fundraising activities at the venue on High Street over the past decade.

Abdul said: “I have done so many charity events over the years at the restaurant for a variety of local causes, but this year I thought I would do something different.

“A lot of big organisations have been supporting the NHS through the pandemic so I thought why not me?

“I just want to say thank you to the NHS by raising money for the hospital. Who knows who will need their help next?

“Everyone one of us can make a little difference.”

Down the years, Abdul has held well attended charity nights but with large social gatherings not permitted came up with a different way of fundraising.

“With social distancing and everything else it was not possible to put on one big event so I thought I would donate the profits from meals bought by everyone who comes in from Sunday to Wednesday for the first two weeks of this month.”
