The venue - a major part of the city centre night time scene for two decades - closed on October 10, with the owners citing the impact on lockdown and covid-19 restrictions on its viability.

Posters in the window at that time said: “Unfortunately due to increased Government restrictions we have no other choice than to close The Solstice until further notice.

“We want to thank you for your support over the last 23 years and we hopefully look forward to seeing you all again soon.”

However, MPB Structures, which owns the venue - also home to Harry’s Bar and Radius - has now submitted an application to Peterborougn City Council to demolish the two-storey building to make way for redevelopment.

The papers suggest a starting dat of January 4, with the demolition complete before the end of the month.

As reported previously, MPB Structures is proposing to start works in late 2021 on a seven-storey block of  77 student rooms  and 56 self-contained, private apartments on the site, having submitted plans in May..

Both planning applications are awaiting approval.
