Another treat in store for Peterborough dessert lovers as new restaurant opens in April

There are still a few finishing touches being applied - with seating going in this weekend - but Creations Dessert Lounge expects to open on April 11.

The venue, which will be able to seat 35-40 people and have a private room is the former Glass Onion pub on Burghley Road, on the edge of the city centre, which until last year was the Embe African/Caribbean restaurant.

It is almost a year in the making for the man behind the project, Zaid Mahmood, a risk and control assessor at city-based insurance giant BGL.

And like the city centre’s other havens for sweet-toothed diners, it will be serving a wide range of desserts - waffles, crepes, sundaes, cookie dough, gelato, cakes, and milkshakes.

“We (his brothers, one of them a builder, have been involved in the set up) started looking for a suitable venue about a year ago, and when this place became available we thought it was a great location.

“It took time to get the lease sorted and we only got the keys in January, so we set ourselves 8 to 10 weeks to get it ready to open.

“The look we have gone for is sleek with a warm feel, with browns and golds, and there is booth seating with some tables and chairs.

“We have had the equipment for a while so we have had plenty of time to get used to operating it and deciding on what will be on the menu.”

Creations Dessert Lounge will add to what is already on offer at TAMU in Broadway and Cowgate, and there are plans for a Creams franchise on Lincoln Road.

“This type of venue is very popular up north, where my brother has worked in one, and there certainly seems to be an appetite for it in Peterborough,” said Zaid.

“We think people will really like what we have to offer, and I am sure it will help that we have added a car park at the rear of the property.”
