The Peterborough Telegraph is running regular spotlights on animals that need new homes to support the work of animal charities in the Peterborough area.
There are many that do such a great job of rescuing and rehoming animals, such as the Peterborough and District Branch of the RSPCA and Wood Green The Animals Charity. Both have continued to operate throughout lockdown and within a small radius are still permitted to rehome these animals.
Below are a selection of those farmyard animals that have been rescued and are in need of their forever home.
To find more details on each horse and to search for more rescue animals, visit www.rspca.org.uk/findapet/rehomeapet/process or to enquire about the chickens visit woodgreen.org.uk/find-a-pet/find-an-outdoor-pet.
1. Bloom - Welsh Pony (1 year)
Bloom is a rising 2 year old Black mare, currently standing at approximately 11 hh. Bloom is good to catch, lead and groom. She is a sensitive little pony so requires a quiet approch. Bloom is good with the vet and farrier but will look to her handler to give her the confidence she needs. She is currently out with 6 other mares and gets on well with them all. She has learnt to wear a rug and is happy to stand in a stable if required.
2. Baylee - Standard bred (3 years)
Baylee is a 15.1hh, 3 year old, bay, trotter type mare. Baylee came into RSPCA care with a body score of 0.5, on top of that she was fighting off an infection. It has taken a long time for her to be well enough to be ready for rehoming but now she is. She mixes well with other horses, is good to handle and has been good for the vet and the farrier. Baylee can be stabled over night and out during the day but we have found that she is much calmer and happier living out.
3. Jackson - Pony (6-12 months)
Jackson was born in April 2020 and is approx 10.2hh. He is an adorable little chap and has weaned really well with the help of his 'nanny' Frankie. Jackson is really good fun and is now in a little herd of 4 geldings. He does need an experienced home where he can grown and develop in his confidence but we are sure he would make a fab little ridden pony in the future. He is vaccinated, micro-chipped and passported.
4. Flynn - Pony (3 years)
Flynn is a 11.1hh 3 year old Gelding. Flynn would be most suited to a quiet home with a competent handler who can give him the confidence that he lacks. He is good to groom, lead and pick out feet. Flynn is a super cute pony that loves the attention once his trust is earned.
