The new equipment has been installed at Hinchingbrooke Hospital but is also available at Peterborough City Hospital and has helped to standardise the service across both sites – meaning that staff can work at either of the hospitals within the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and be familiar with the same equipment.

This is the first stage of an overhaul of the service, which will soon see a new patient area, reception, staff room and admission and discharge area.

Staff are now receiving training on the equipment as the new scopes have a built in scope guide – meaning they can identify exactly where they are in the bowel.

Syed Shaukat, endoscopy lead, said: “I’m over the moon with the new endoscopy equipment. Now that we have the latest technology it allows the department to work more efficiently.

“Endoscopy is currently undergoing significant changes to ensure we achieve standardisation trust-wide. It’s all go right now; building work is due to start in the patient area, which includes a new reception, a new staff room, admission and discharge area.

“We are all very excited and it gives us the opportunity to provide a better experience for our patients.”
