New partnership will allow Peterborough cancer patients to get medication delivered to their door

Serv – Suffolk and Cambridgeshire provides an essential service to local NHS hospitals by transporting blood, blood products, pathology samples and donated breast milk, 365 nights of the year. However during the pandemic they have expanded their service during the pandemic to deliver prescription medications and now operate 24/7.

The service is available to patients who are shielding and are unable to arrange collection of their medication.

More than 500 sets of medications have been dropped off by volunteers to patients across Peterborough, Huntingdon and the surrounding areas, who were shielding at home.

Dr Kanchan Rege, Chief Medical Officer at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford and Rutland Hospitals, said: “Cancer patients are among the most vulnerable so it was important that we found a way to ensure they could stay safe at home, while still receiving their oral chemotherapy and other medications.

“The service that Serv – Suffolk and Cambridge provides has been invaluable. We can’t thank them enough and hope to continue working with them while our services get back to normal.”
