Patients and visitors will be seeing birthing aids, including a birthing pool, and will be able to speak to midwives about the role they play in helping women during their pregnancy, labour, delivery, and postnatal care.

Fran Gregory, head of midwifery, said: “Midwives across the world provide a vital role in ensuring mothers can deliver their babies in the safest environment possible.

“In the UK we are fortunate in that expectant mothers do have a choice about how and where they deliver. However, in some countries both mothers and midwives have few options available to them.

“At Peterborough City Hospital we are extremely proud of our midwives. Last year they helped more than 5,000 mothers give birth. We strive to provide a safe, proactive, quality service where mothers are supported in their choices for where and how their babies are born.”

In addition to interactive displays, there will also be a cake stall and a giving tree to help raise funds to purchase medical equipment for the Maternity Department at Mission Hospital, Zimbabwe.
