The hospital said the works are taking place between Junctions 15 and 16 (Nene Parkway and Bretton Gate).

It tweeted: “This means that a public diversion route will be in place. A faster route for staff needing to get to work quickly at this critical time is available.”

The Peterborough Telegraph contacted the hospital and Peterborough City Council for more information and both passed the PT onto Highways England.

However, a council spokesman added: “The information we have is a full closure of both carriageways between Junction 15 and Junction 16.

“Works are overnight (8pm to 6am) commencing on April 14 with the last night anticipated as being April 20 (no work on weekend nights).”

A Highways England spokesman said: “This is for urgent structural repairs to the Longthorpe footbridge. Closures are from 8pm to 6am, and the last night of work should be either tomorrow or Monday.”
