Successful Peterborough COVID testing pilot scheme to be rolled out across the country

The scheme has seen weekly testing of professionals who regularly visit care homes - including community nurses and physiotherapists.

The proposal will be rolled out across the country 'in the coming weeks' after it has been piloted in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.

The Government also announced plans – due to be trialled later this month – to allow specific family and friends to visit care homes supported by testing.

It means any provision will not be in place before the new lockdown measures come into force.

The guidance adds: “It is recommended homes have an arrangement to enable bookings or appointments for visitors and ad hoc visits should not be permitted.”
