Shutters down at Queensgate as lockdown begins in Peterborough

The shutters were brought down at Queensgate as lockdown began in Peterborough yesterday.

A majority of shops were closed in the city centre as the new rules came into force at midnight.

But while restaurants were also shut, there were still a number of people in the centre, visiting the shops, takeaway food outlets and banks that remained open, or taking exercise.

Peterborough Cathedral also remains open for private prayer.

The parkways were quieter than normal, but traffic was still above the levels seen at the beginning of the first lockdown.

The current restrictions are set to stay in place until December 2.
