Shoppers return to Peterborough city centre as lockdown ends

There were queues outside some shops in Peterborough city centre this morning as lockdown restrictions were ended.

The city is now in Tier Two of the government restrictions following the most recent lockdown - however non-essential shops, pubs and restaurants can now re-open, providing they stick to certain rules to keep people COVID safe.

As the lockdown was lifted there were queues outside John Lewis and Primark in Queensgate, although there were no large crowds reported early in the morning.

Many stores are offering longer opening hours in the run up to Christmas to make up for lost time at what would normally be the busiest time of year.
