Rick Carroll, Principal of Thomas Deacon Academy, said that measures taken at the school to keep staff and pupils safe meant there was minimum disruption to others at the school. He said: “A student in our Sixth Form has received a positive test result for Covid-19. Due to our rigorous social distancing processes and stringent bubbles, Public Health England has advised that only 17 other students should self-isolate as a precautionary measure for 14 days.

“The students who have been asked to stay at home will be able to continue their learning with the support of our teachers online. All other students will be able to attend the academy and sixth form as they would do normally, providing they have no symptoms.”
