Having put needle to thread since last April, community group Peterborough4You launched their appeal for community sewers to help the shortage of PPE, now they’re offering further help in the latest lockdown.

The volunteers lovingly sewed over 1,000 sets of scrubs and tens of thousands of accessories like ear-savers and face masks since they started their first ‘Care for Care homes’ campaign at the beginning of the pandemic.

Now the group has started another campaign: ‘Scrubs for Hubs’, widening their original scope and providing much needed PPE to Coronavirus testing hubs and vaccine centres.

Their donations which are ‘made with love’ have found their way across the city to care homes, GP surgeries and Peterborough City Hospital and even further afield across the country.

For coordinator, Sarah Gee, the project has always been about helping those who are working on the frontline, with the skills her army of volunteers possess.

She said: “We recently heard of the need for scrubs in hubs, so we launched this new campaign to help out the workers at our local Coronavirus testing hubs.

“We are still continuing to support our carers and NHS teams throughout another lockdown, so scrubs and accessories are still available for them too.

“We would really encourage any workers to get in touch as we can help! We’re hugely thankful to anyone who has donated fabrics or volunteers but a big thank you goes to those workers in this trying time.!

Sarah is hoping for support from anyone who is willing to volunteer to help ‘get the latest appeal off the ground’ as they face more requests for PPE.

The team will provide volunteers with any materials required and ‘all you need is a sewing machine to make a difference’.
