The Trust, which manages several sites across the Peterborough area including Ferry Meadows, Orton Meadows, Orton Mere, Woodston Reach and Thorpe Meadows, issued the advice after receiving reports of large gatherings on their sites, sent in by concerned visitors.

The Peterborough Telegraph was sent a picture appearing to show a group in excess of 12 people together at Ferry Meadows on Wednesday evening (September 16).

This is despite the government’s ‘new rule of six,’ which prohibits large gatherings, without an exemption, coming into force on Monday.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: “Nene Park Trust continues to monitor and respond proactively to government guidance with respect to Covid-19.

“With the issuing of the new guidance on a maximum group size of six meeting both indoors and outdoors, we were quick to inform our visitors of this via social media and the Trust’s website.

“We are working closely with the local police to help monitor adherence to this guidance, and as a result they are undertaking increased daily patrols in the Park to supplement the work of our Ranger team in informing the public of these requirements.

“We would encourage that if people see a breach of social distancing rules, consider reporting it to the police on https://www.cambs.police.uk/report/Report-a-breach-of-COVID-19-restrictions.

“We ask all visitors to take their own responsibility to ensure Nene Park remains a safe place to visit.

“To reinforce this message, social distancing signage remains in place throughout the Park, along with hand sanitisers stations and track and trace arrangements in our cafes.”

The Cambridgeshire police guidance stressed that only ‘serious and significant’ breaches should be reported.
