A spokesman for Peterborough City Council said: “We can confirm we have been notified of a positive test result at Old Fletton school. The affected person is isolating, and those within the same bubble are not at school, as per the existing process agreed by the Local Authority, Public Health England and our schools. We are working with the school and it remains open and safe for all other children and staff.”

There was no comment from the council regarding Woodston school at the time of going to press.

There have been a small number of cases at schools in Peterborough since term restarted - today it was announced a number of pupils at Stanground Academy were isolating following a positive test in year 10.

Parents of pupils outside the affected bubbles have hit out at policy after only finding out about the cases when letters were posted on social media.

A Peterborough City Council spokesman confirmed it was policy to only tell parents of pupils in the affected bubble said: “When a case is identified, the school will speak to the parents or guardians to make them aware of next steps. They will then work out who the affected person’s contacts are in the school, and when identified will contact them as soon as feasibly to make them aware, and again, to advise next steps. Our school will advise parents not to post anything on Facebook, but we have no control over how people use social media.

“We only notify parents in a bubble. The rest of the school is separate from that bubble and safe, so can continue attending as normal.”
