Helped by sixteen libraries across Cambridgeshire, the Hubs have distributed over 250 toiletry packs to those needing emergency supplies. The pack includes soap, toothpaste, laundry and cleaning products and sanitary supplies.

Councillor Irene Walsh, Cabinet Member for Communities for Peterborough City Council said “We noticed early in December that quite a lot of requests to the Hub were coming in to support with hygiene supplies. Families who were low on money were having to choose between food or toiletries.

"We worked with the library services in each district and provided them with a supply and when we get a request through to the Hub for support, we will direct them to their nearest library to pick up a pack.”

Councillor Steve Criswell, Chairman of Communities Partnership Committee for Cambridgeshire County Council, said “It’s important that families who are struggling know that there is help for them. Whether that be emergency hygiene packs they can pick up from their local library, food parcels, financial help, or simply need someone to help them walk their dog. You are not alone, please get in touch with us”.

The Hub is managed by Red Cross volunteers who have helped purchase supplies as well as use donations to make up hygiene packs and distribute to libraries for use by individuals and families across the county.

Families and individuals experiencing immediate financial hardship with access to food or essential supplies can contact the Hub by calling 0345 045 5219 or completing the support form on the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough council websites.
