Peterborough pupils receiving first choice secondary school is revealed

Peterborough City Council has revealed that 87 per cent of pupils will go to their preferred school.

In 2016, 87 per cent received their first choice, up from 83 per cent in 2015 and 81 per cent in 2014.

In total, 2,465 applications were received on time and 98 per cent of pupils will be offered one of their three preferences.

This year also sees the first ever students offered places at Hampton Gardens secondary school which opens in September.

Parents who applied online are able to log on to the council’s website from first thing this morning to find out about their child’s place. Letters and emails will also be sent to all.

Councillor John Holdich, leader of the council and cabinet member for education, skills and university, said: “Secondary school is a big milestone in a child’s life and it’s fantastic to see that almost nine out of every 10 children have been offered places at their first preference.

“Our education team works hard to improve standards throughout the city and every headteacher is challenged and supported to raise pupil attainment and progress.”

Eleven out of the city’s 12 secondary schools are now rated as good or outstanding by Ofsted,
