Ofsted inspectors visited The Voyager Academy in Walton in May - just a couple of months after the school was moved out of special measures.

It had been in special measures - the lowest category for two years, from February 2014 until February this year.

While the inspectors noted there had been improvements at the school, they said there was still work to be done.

Principal Scott Hudson said: “We are delighted with the very positive comments from inspectors which confirm that we are continuing to make progress.

“Of course, we recognise that there is still more work to be done, but this means we can be confident that our plans are effective in helping our pupils to achieve better outcomes.”

Inspectors noted that the Academy is working well to ‘challenge teachers’ perceptions of what pupils at The Voyager Academy can achieve’.

Citing improvements in attitudes to learning, inspectors also found that ‘teachers are now able to plan lessons where they can take risks, and hence which engage pupils more so that they make better progress’.

However, the inspectors added the school needs to ‘improve the teaching and assessment of mathematics to sustain improving outcomes and make sure that pupils know what they are expected to achieve in this subject.

Stephen Munday, Chief Executive of Comberton Academy Trust, said: “The Voyager Academy has undergone a series of changes during the past few years. We are extremely pleased to see that they have brought about the right improvements that provide a good platform for further progress.”
