GCSE RESULTS: Half of Thomas Deacon Academy pupils achieve A*-C in both English and maths

The proportion of GCSE pupils at Thomas Deacon Academy achieving A*-C in both English and maths was 52 per cent.

Pupils who performed exceptionally well and attained the highest grades include Devesh Erda, who secured eight A*s and three A grades and one B grade, and Annie Cavanagh, who achieved nine A*s and three A grades.

Other students securing eight or more GCSEs at A* or A were Ayesha Khan, Leo Quach, Mariya Ahmed, Hannah Danks and Morgan Denham.

Geoff Walls, principal, said: “We are very pleased that 52 per cent of students achieved A*-C in both English and maths as this represents a 3 per cent increase on last year’s attainment headline figure.

“Students and staff at TDA have worked very hard to achieve such encouraging outcomes and should feel proud that their efforts have been rewarded.”

Emma Taplin, vice principal, added: “It is particularly pleasing that several GCSE subjects, including the sciences, achieved A*-C results that were significantly higher than the national averages for 2015.

“This year 95 per cent of students in both chemistry and physics achieved an A*-C and in biology 97 per cent of students attained an A*-C.”
