Wanting to help support pupils with their emotional and social wellbeing, YPCS donated 500 bags to Stanground Academy, Ormiston Bushfield school and The Peterborough School. Costing £5.50 per bag, the charity received a grant from BGL which covered the costs of the mental health materials.

The bags which included strategy activities, stress balls, mindfulness coloring and pencils, breathing cards and a bath bomb with sweets. All of which include information on understanding emotions, how to regulate feelings and how to contact YPCS if they need to.

Vice Chair, Michelle Lay YPCS said: “They came about because year six-seven pupils this year has been a very different time for young people. They didn’t have the ending to primary school they would have hoped to have and starting secondary school is a huge life event in itself, so we wanted to support wellbeing. Promoting wellbeing in young people is so important as it also helps us identify early concerns around mental health. Early intervention supports help with prevention of a mental health concern becoming a disorder such as adolescent depression or social anxiety and needing other services.”

A big hit with the schools, the wellbeing bags have been snapped up by the new pupils.

Andrew Thorpe DSL Assistant Principal, Ormiston Bushfield Academy said: “What a fantastic opportunity! It’s a really lovely way to welcome our Year 7 students with resources to highlight the importance of their mental health. As ever it is wonderful for OBA to work with external partners for the benefit of our students”
