Pep Fasulo, the face of The Pizza House in Peterborough, dies aged 55

Well known Peterborough restaurateur Pep Fasulo has died after a battle with kidney problems.

Pep, who had been a fixture in The Pizza House in Cowgate in the city centre for almost 40 years, passed away yesterday in hospital, his brother city businessman Rinaldo said this morning.

He was 55.

Rinaldo, who took over the running of the popular restaurant in recent months after Pep’s ill health forced him to step down, said: “It is such a shame. I know he was really well known and loved by customers over the years and we will all miss him.

“I went to see him on Tuesday and he was fantastic and looking forward to coming home. Then the next thing he took a turn for the worse, developed an infection and went into a coma. He passed away yesterday afternoon at 4.10pm.

Pep, born and bred in Peterborough, went straight into the restaurant business from school and had worked in The Pizza House since 1978 . He took over running it when brother Rinaldo moved on to other ventures in the 1980s.

He had a liver transplant seven years ago and had recently suffered from ill health and kidney problems.

He leaves a partner and four children.
