New £3.5 million Home Bargains store to open in Peterborough this weekend

The new Home Bargains store on Bourges Boulevard will open in Peterborough this weekend, creating 96 jobs.

Home Bargains said they have invested approximately £3.5 million in the new store in Peterborough, which will be officially opened at 8am on Saturday, January 30.

The store has been built on the site of the old Toys R Us site, which was destroyed by fire in 2019. Toys R Us went into administration the previous year, and the site has been empty ever since.

The firm will also be donating £2,000 to the local charity, Little Miracles, which supports families that have children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions. Providing access to the advice, support and care that they deserve, at the time they need it most.

Little Miracles currently supports around 10,000 children in East Anglia, and its activities and Family Support Workers provide a lifeline to the families and their children.

Emily Sibthorpe from Little Miracles said: “At Little Miracles, we are extremely grateful for this donation. We will be using it to provide sessions over half term to the families we support, making resource packs that will then allow them to participate in sessions every day including sensory play, art, cooking, dance and so much more.”

Bashir Rasaq, the new Peterborough store manager, said: “Having recently joined the Home Bargains family, I’m thrilled to be heading up the Peterborough team as its new store manager. Working in the retail sector for 22 years, I can honestly say nothing beats the buzz of a brand-new store.”

The 27,017 sq ft store is adjacent to The Food Warehouse and will offer shoppers a range of products, including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.

The new store will also come with its own garden centre – GardenWorld at Home Bargains.

Bashir added: “We’re honestly thrilled to be opening our new store in Peterborough this Saturday. Bourges Boulevard will be a great location for us and we’re proud to be able to offer local people top-branded goods at exceptionally low prices.”

The firm will also be donating £2,000 to the local charity, Little Miracles, which supports families that have children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions. Providing access to the advice, support and care that they deserve, at the time they need it most.
