New eco-standard secured by Peterborough's Queensgate shopping centre

Peterborough's Queensgate shopping centre has become the first centre of its type to secure a new accreditation for its environmental management.

Queensgate’s environmental department has been awarded a certificate for the ISO 14001:2015 accreditation - regarded as one of the highest standards that can be achieved.

The new accreditation is a revised version of a previous standard and was introduced just six months ago.

Carol Wakelin, environmental manager at Queensgate Shopping Centre, said: “The changes to the ISO 14001:2015 affect all environmental impact, opportunities and risk within Queensgate.

“It has required us to re-train and introduce several new systems.

“It is a fantastic achievement to have secured this accreditation in just four months.

“This reflects our ongoing efforts to position Queensgate Shopping Centre at the forefront of energy and waste management.

“The criteria is extremely rigorous but an important necessity for businesses to undertake to protect our environment and minimise our impact on it.”

Energy management experts from more than 60 countries developed the ISO 14001 standard created to help companies of all sizes to cut energy consumption, reduce costs and meet stringent environmental requirements.
