New chief executive named for Peterborough based comparethemarket.com

A new boss has been appointed to lead the Peterborough-based price comparison website Compare the Market.

Jonathon Brown will join Compare the Market, which is part of the BGL Group, based in Bakewell Road, Orton Southgate, in the newly created role of chief executive on October 23.

Mr Brown arrives from online photo printing company Photobox, where he is chief operating officer working across a number of brands that include Photobox, Moonpig, Hofman, posterXXL and the newly acquired Dutch cards and gifts business, Greetz.

Matthew Donaldson, chief executive of the BGL Group, said: “Jonathon brings with him a wealth of experience in leading digital businesses and has a strong background in strategy, commercial and marketing.

"I know he will do a fantastic job in leading the Compare the Market team as it delivers the ambitious strategy we’ve set.

Mr Donaldson added: "His strong e-commerce and customer focus make him a perfect fit for the division and for BGL more widely.”

Compare the Market was previously led by Paul Galligan, who held the title of Group Director and who left about a year ago.

Compare the Market, which trades as comparethemarket.com, is renown for its use of meerkat puppets Alexsandr Orlov and Sergei in its national advertising campaigns since 2009. The puppets captured the public imagination and are credited with helping to transform the fortunes of the business.

Mr Brown said: "With Meerkat Meals and Meerkat Movies being the strongest rewards proposition in the price comparison marketplace, and the ambitious plans for future growth across the whole product range, the sky’s the limit. I can’t wait to get started.”
