The official opening is planned for April 15 and Starbucks says it is keen to provide sponsorship for local causes.

A spokesman for Starbucks Ortongate, which already has a large store in Cathedral Square, Peterborough, said: “We are excited to be opening in Ortongate.

“This the first drive-thru that we have opened in Peterborough.

He said: “We think it’s an excellent location close to the A1. It is an up and coming place.

“We will be creating 20 jobs for the community and we are trying to recruit for these positions. The jobs will be a mix of full-time and part-time.

He added: “We also want to sponsor some local community projects. So if anyone knows of a group in need of support, then pop in and tell our staff.

“We are receiving lots of exciting messages from people in Peterborough and we plan on having a big opening event.”

He said the main feature of the opening ceremony would be four polo players on horseback.

They will be the first customers to go through the drive-thru, which will be followed by a charity polo match.

The match will be played on the Onley Grounds, in Rugby, to raise money for the Lewis Foundation in Northampton.
