Ajay Sabharwal set up Banjaraa providing Indian street food two years ago and with his orange horsebox he quickly became a familiar attraction at events across the region.

He was fully booked for the summer and was confident of a successful year.

But the Covid-19 ban on outdoor events has forced him to close his business, leaving him with a daily struggle to keep the business afloat.

Now he is hoping a crowdfunding campaign can see the business through to better times.

He is hoping to raise £6,000 by May 27 and so far has received 23 pledges totalling £1,355.

Mr Sabharwal said: “It is heartbreaking to see all the hard work and determination put into the business to be forced to close overnight.”

In return for support, Mr Sabharwal is offering a range of rewards, including offers on Banjaraa’s Indian wraps, tuition to make the perfect masala and corporate offers.

He said: “2020 was set to be our biggest year yet. We were fully booked across multiple events throughout the summer and had begun to scout locations for our new permanent base, the Banjaraa deli.

“The rapid spread and subsequent lockdown due to this crisis have decimated our income stream, and it’s just been heartbreaking.

“We’re not looking for charity, but assistance to get us through this uncertain and difficult period.”
