Business group in Peterborough is helping to rebuild young lives

Members of the NSPCC Peterborough Business Group, which has raised over £800,000 for the charity over 20 years, attended an open evening.

Visitors heard first-hand about the services given by the charity in Peterborough, with 350 cases referred to the centre over the last three years.

Chris Collier, chair of the group, said: “We raise funds specifically for the NSPCC in Peterborough so it’s great to see all the work that’s going on in the centre to help young people in the city.

“The centre might be Peterborough’s best kept secret but we want to give its vital work as much publicity as possible so more vulnerable young people can get the help they need.”

Members of the NSPCC’s participation team spoke to visitors about how the services offered in Peterborough help young people.

Kate Owen, NSPCC children’s services practitioner, said: “It’s fantastic that members of the business group were able to come and see directly where their money has been spent.

“By meeting with the young people they saw how the services we offer can prevent potential abuse and help survivors move on with their lives.

“The Peterborough Service Centre relies massively on donations from fund raisers to carry out our vital work of empowering young people to stay safe and recover from abuse.”
