Elly said: "I’m honoured to be a patron of the Deepings Literary Festival. This a fabulous community event that brings together some of the biggest literary names alongside lesser-known and upcoming authors. There’s a really friendly, inclusive feel to it - and cake is usually on offer. I can’t wait to take part in the festival again.”

Elly’s books have been shortlisted for the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year three times and, in 2016, she was awarded the CWA Dagger in the Library for her body of work. The tenth Ruth Galloway book, The Dark Angel, was published in February 2018 and was a Sunday Times bestseller.

Festival originator and South Kesteven District Councill, Judy Stevens said: “We are absolutely delighted to have someone of Elly’s literary calibre as our patron. She fits perfectly with the profile of our event and will help to further establish the festival’s literary credentials.

“Elly was very popular when she spoke at our last festival. Her books are best sellers and she will bring huge benefits to the Deepings Literary Festival.”

Next year's event runs from April 28 to May 2.
