Uffington-based Kate Genever creates the displays by local, national and international artists around a flagpole and noticeboard, which are regularly updated to keep the message relevant and fresh.

She said: “Each artist has commented on the benefit of showing their work in an inclusive setting, with all of them saying how it’s brought new people to their work and made them consider new ways to exhibit.”

The project was supported by South Kesteven District Council through a Creative Artists’ Small Grant Award.

Coun Rosemary Trollope-Bellew, SKDC’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy, said: “It is really satisfying to see this project have such a positive impact on those involved directly in the process – and also on residents who can able to enjoy art and creativity, safely and so imaginatively.

“Our thanks go to Kate for bringing work from as far afield as Poland and San Francisco to South Kesteven.”

The programme supported Black Lives Matter by blacking out the board and flag pole for the week of Black Out Wednesday and saw the notice board bathed in red light for the Light It In Red Day, supporting Covid-affected venues and events. Alice Pool, Sorca Noble and Charmain Haynes all graduated in 2020 and due to cancellation of their final shows, space was given to share some of their work.

Kate plans to extend this work by touring shows with other display board/flagpole projects across the UK, to further promote artists and bring diverse work to distinct audiences.
