Peterborough United's early-season strike force was reunited with great success

The Peterborough United strike force that started the season so well was back in tandem tonight (October 9) and Jason Cummings and Matt Godden both scored in a 2-2 Checkatrade Trophy draw with Brighton Under 21s at the ABax Stadium.

It wasn’t cush a good night for a much maligned defence, although goalkeeper Aaron Chapman enjoyed a decent game.

Chapman failed to save a single penalty in a shootout for the extra point which Posh lost 5-4.

Aaron Chapman: The giant ‘keeper was the best Posh player in the opening quarter when he showed much anticipation and agility. No chance with the two goals or five Brighton penalties 7

Jason Naismith: Set up the first Posh goal and he moved forward far more effectively than in recent games. His defensing didn’t convince though. He’s not the quickest to recover 6

Colin Daniel: Delivered a couple of fine crosses in the second-half that almost led to goals, but another whose defensive work is not at a good enough level 5.5

Rhys Bennett: A couple of dodgy moments in the early stages, but recovered to become reasonably solid 6

Ryan Tafazolli: Not the dominant force of a few matches ago 6

Louis Reed: Enjoyed some decent passing moments, but the midfielder didn’t do enough to break into the League One team. Scored his penalty in the shootout 6

Callum Cooke: An indifferent display which included some fine shooting, including one against a post, and some wonky passing. Another who probably won’t play at Scunthorpe 6

Jamie Walker: He’s such a smooth runner with the ball one can’t help thinking he’s much better than he’s shown so far. Played a big part in the second Posh goal from his position out wide 6.5

Siriki Dembele: Lost possession far too much and a few neat tricks didn’t make up for his slopiness. Jit the post in the second-half and converted his penalty in the shootout 5

Jason Cummings: A superbly taken goal as he lobbed the ‘keeper from not that far out. Looked lively and dangerous for the most part 7

Matt Godden: He also took his goal well, but his passing didn’t match his impressive mobility. Saw his penalty in the shootout saved 6.5
