Setting the Peterborough United record straight for Wycombe Wanderers cheerleader Mr Parry (no not that one)
Alan Parry, a former TV commentator, even had a pop at me in a newspaper column for failing to accept his favourite club’s fluke elevation, but sadly his words bombed thanks to a rather embarrassing gaffe early in a piece that ironically played heavily on the need for diligence and fact checking.
“Peterborough are a fine club whose last major achievement was winning the old Fourth Division 46 years ago,” Parry wrote which is true if you ignore the back to-back promotions of 1990-91 & 1991-92 and 2007-08-& 2008-09 and a third promotion to the second tier in 2010-11, all of them achieved by playing every other team home and away, as it should be. Parry probably commentated badly on some of those Posh matches in those times, but I’m sure it was just forgetfulness rather than ignorance that caused him to mislead his readers.
