Stone supplier near Peterborough secures £1.2 million contract with top university
Stamford Stone, based at of Swaddywell Quarry, Stamford Road, Marholm, is to supply 1,500 tonnes of the world famous stone for a multi-million pound regeneration scheme in Oxford.
The deal, worth £1.2 million, will involve the company providing 8,000 pieces of handcut stone. Each piece will be marked with a letter so it can be laid on site in the correct way.

Hide AdThe stone will be used to clad the outside of a landmark building that will be part of Oxford University’s Jesus College.
Dan Wilson, director of Stamford Stone, said: “We are really pleased to be involved with such a high profile project.”
“We have worked hard to promote our Clipsham stone to be the go-to stone for restoration projects in Oxford and Cambridge over the years and this work is beginning to pay dividends.
“The Clipsham limestone we excavate from our quarries is the most recognised stone in the area for large-scale commercial projects.”

Hide AdThe Northgate development in Oxford has been designed by MICA Architects with construction giant BAM as the main contractor and Szerelmey Stonework and Restoration are designing the detailed fixing systems and installing the stonework.
The building is due to open this autumn and will mark Jesus College’s 450th anniversary.
