Peterborough shopping channel host ‘chuffed’ after comparison to Ricky Gervais character David Brent in viral video

Peterborough shopping channel Ideal World TV has been inundated with calls and tweets from customers asking if they have taken on Ricky Gervais (in his moniker as David Brent) to help sell duvets.

A clip of the presenter has even gone viral on Twitter with more than 68,000 likes and nearly 15,000 reshares, and even Ricky Gervais has got involved.

Twitter user Ben @islandniles tweeted, “I’m sorry but this is actually David Brent flogging duvets on Ideal World.” And other Twitter users were quick to agree.

“The Brentmeister General as I live and breathe” tweeted Rachel Hawkins.

“Has @rickygervais seen this? I think he may be due some royalties?” asked Simon Price.

Gervais himself responded on Twitter writing, “Cheeky f*****.”

The presenter is Rob Locke who joined the home shopping channel, based in Newark Road, following a career in news television and as a voice-over artist in America.

Rob said of the attention: “I’m pretty chuffed with the comparisons to be honest and hey, if it helps sell more duvets – that’s even better!”
