High winds cause power outage and fallen trees near Peterborough.

High winds overnight caused power outages in some areas and police have said fallen trees caused disruption.

Cambridgeshire Police said they were called to deal with a large fallen tree in Thorney where there were also power cuts.

Police said on social media: “Strong gales caused disruption to trees in Thorney earlier today with power outages and obstruction to roads in the rural community.”

Strong winds are expected to continue today (September 26) across the region according to the Met Office with gusts between 34 and 40mph for much of the day.

Winds will also be strong for much of tomorrow with gusts over 30mph.
