THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of Peterborugh today (Sunday) as around 4,500 runners of all ages and abilities took part in the Great Eastern Run and fun run.
Runners were cheered and applauded all along the 13.1mile main race circuit - and the shorter fun run course - which started in glorious sunshine in Cathedral Square and ended at the Embankment.

Just to say a huge thank you to everyone who lined the streets of Peterborough today to support us runners in the Great Eastern Run. There was barely a stretch of road that didn't have people cheering us on which made the 13 miles a lot more bearable than they would otherwise have been - especially in that heat! I've done half marathons in other towns and the GER is, without doubt, the best supported. So thank you!

It's good to hear that you had a nice morning. I'm sure that the many residents of Peterborough who could not go about their business because of road closures will agree with me.

Next time, why not run around Ferry Meadows instead, and let those of us who have things to do get on with them?

Well Angry of Werrington, most of them seemed to be out supporting the race.

Suzanne, agree, it's always a good atmosphere along the route and nice to see so much local support

Angry of Werrington - I cannot believe what I have just read. It's ONE day of the year - lots of people raising money for lots of charities - lots of people out on the streets showing their support. There was plenty of notice of street closures. Organize yourself a bit better next time!!!!!

Well done to all of the runners - you were fantastic. I was proud to be a citizen of Peterborough today. The atmosphere was fantastic. Well done to all of those people who gave up their time to assist as Stewards etc too.

Angry of Werrington - where have you been, the road closure signs have been up for the last two weeks, and the closure was no more than 3 hours. This event does so much to promote the good in our city and your sellfish comments knock it down

Get better organised next year because 2700 will hopefully be back - at least you know now in good time!!

Angry of Werrington: This event is always well publicised in the newspapers, on the radio, on the television and with the road signs erected three weeks before the event. This gives everybody, you included, ample time to work round it. I invariably go to one section, which is closed for the run, every Sunday but, being well aware of the closures, I changed my plans and went Saturday instead. It is one day a year and it raises thousands for charity but it is obviously not convenient for a miserable old git like you. Get a life.

I thought it was brilliant to see the runners go past our house .My son played his trumpet for the runners and they were fantastic to clap him despite needing their energy.
The rubbish was cleared away swiftly and the roads were opened way before we expected.
It was great to see so many people stood out supporting this event.

I was one of the runners in the half marathon and can honestly say the locals were fantastic. The entertainment en route was great and there were even unofficial drink stations and people handing out sweets....the little boy on his trumpet was great. I can understand that there was some disruption for the local residents but people were out there pounding the streets for 2 or more hours raising money for various worthy causes - I raised nearly £500 for Alzheimer's Society - and the townsfolk of Peterborough should be proud of the whole day!
