The biennial Young Gifted and Talented Open Exhibition returns for 2015 and presents emerging artists the perfect opportunity to have their work professionally curated and exhibited in Peterborough’s very own City Gallery as well as three cash prizes of £150 to be won.

The exhibition will showcase the best of the region’s young visual artists, recognising their talent and ambition, and is split into three age categories: GCSE (14-16), A-Level (16-18) and Higher Education (18-22).

City Gallery is delighted to welcome Katherine Wood and Tony Nero as judges for this year’s competition, who are each prominent visual arts figures in their own right:

Katherine Wood is a leading national curator and facilitator of visual arts who has worked for numerous renowned galleries and organisations across the country including Arnolfini (Bristol) and MIMA (Middlesborough) as well as being the Founding Director of the purpose built regional arts centre ‘FirstSite’ (Colchester).

Tony Nero is a prevalent local artist who regularly exhibits his unique contemporary portraiture across the area and is actively committed to promoting and supporting artists of the region through his work with organisations such as Peterborough Artists Open Studios and Creative Peterborough.

Excited by the opportunity, Katherine is looking forward to discovering “the young talent in Peterborough and spotting stars of the future,” whilst Tony lauds the competition as “an excellent platform for any young artist in the city, and a great opportunity to gain some exhibiting experience.”

Young artists are invited to submit up to three pieces of visual art work (installation and performance pieces subject to gallery space). Submission dates are 10 - 11 July 2015 with winners announced on 23 July 2015 at a special Preview event. The exhibition will be open to the public from July 24 – September 23 2015.

To be eligible, entrants must be aged 14-22 and live anywhere within the PE postcode area – a region that spreads far outside of just the bounds of the city. From Hunstanton to Huntingdon, Skegness to Swaffham, – artists from areas of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk are all eligible to enter.

Samantha Roddan, freelance curator and artist as well as Director of Art Pop-Up based in Stamford, will be curating the 2015 show and hopes to see “work that shows…an interesting exploration of materials and real connection with the subject matter.”
