Five Tuesdays Till Two concerts to brighten up August lunchtimes

A new season of 'Tuesdays Till Two' lunchtime concerts at city centre church St John's, adjacent to the Guildhall, starts on August 2.

This year August has five Tuesdays, and there’s a concert for each of them, beginning with local classical guitarist Steve Bean, who will play a mix of classical music and his own arrangements of pop classics.

Subsequent weeks bring “Opera Desserts” - a selection of operatic highlights, and successive appearances by pianist Irena Radić, who will be the accompanist for talented flute player Hannah Clark on August 16 and for violinist Freya Goldmark on 23rd .

The season ends with a concert featuring two flutes, a harp, and, on piano, Roman Catholic priest Fr. Bruce Burbidge, who was based in the city for several years, and whose previous appearances at St John’s have attracted audiences of over 120 people, including many of his former parishioners.

All the concerts will take place at 1pm on Tuesdays, with the church café open from noon, staffed by volunteers from The Green Backyard. Admission to the concerts is free, but those attending are asked to make a donation of £4 if possible, to help cover costs.
