But it will not be a replacement for the popular Broadway lounge, which opened almost two years ago in Broadway, opposite the theatre, which will be refurbished and remain open.

Owner Salim Rehmatullah said: “We’re delighted to reveal the location of our brand new lounge, situated over three floors on the corner of King Street and Cowgate.

“It offers much more space for dessert lovers to enjoy our sweet offering in a friendly, indulgent environment. We’ll be creating 15 jobs, with our recruitment drive starting soon.”

Already in place though is manager Jack Martin, who said: “Joining Tamu has been an amazing experience so far and I am excited to see what the future holds with the opening of our new lounge in Peterborough.”

The new venture is hopefully the first of several, with Salim revealing he is in negotiations with agents in Northampton and Bedford to open Tamu lounges there.

He added: “We’ve updated our branding to include a new logo and interior design.

“We’ll be launching a new kids’ menu designed specifically for our younger diners as well a range of healthier desserts. We’ve had lots of requests for dairy free and gluten free options so our product development team have been hard at work developing products to suit customers with specific requirement.”

The Cowgate restaurant will have an open counter area so all customers will be able to view their desserts being created in front of their eyes.

And there will be a “gelato lab” in the basement where staff will prepare fresh Italian gelato every morning in 22 flavours. – with opportunities throughout for customers to visit and sample the delicious fresh gelato.

Salim added: “We’ve enjoyed every moment of our first couple of years in Peterborough and plan to expand the business by opening in a further three locations. Our current location on Broadway will be refurbished and remain open. We will be adding a twist to our offerings in the summer at Broadway so watch this space!”
