Arts organisation Metal have been working hard with a host of national and international artists and the local community to bring a free weekend festival celebrating the season, the land and the unique role that agriculture has played in the development of Peterborough.

The two day event will fill the city centre with the sights, sounds, tastes, smells, songs and dances of the countryside and re-imagines the historic rural traditions of the Harvest Wain Procession, the Harvest Barn Dance and the Harvest Supper.

The Turbans

The Turbans

It will include the reinstatement of the original food and craft market in St. John’s Square; new Harvest themed artworks by leading UK artists; and Morris, Molly and cultural dancing supported by international folk musicians busking for your pleasure.

On Saturday evening at 6.30pm, a spectacular parade of Harvest costumed characters will weave its way from Bridge Street to the Guildhall, handing over to the Harvest Stage for a gig of foot stomping folk rhythms from around the world headlined by the fabulous
Turbans - dance under the stars to welcome in the Harvest Moon!

At 1pm on Sunday, in Cathedral Square, international artists Lucy +Jorge Orta present “70x7 The Meal, Act XXXIX”. This huge outdoor participatory artwork involving 500 people is part of their international series of community dining experiences, and a first in the UK. Guests have been invited via a network of community ambassadors and through a public lottery. Those watching this incredible spectacle will also be able to sample the menu from the open-air kitchens.
