Comic opera up next at the Key
Merrie England is an English comic opera written by Edward German with Basil Hood in 1902.
It concerns love and rivalries in the Court of Queen Elizabeth I and contains patriotic songs such as “O Peaceful England” and “Yeomen of England”.

Peterborough Opera exists to bring annual live performances of opera in English to Peterborough and the surrounding area, but also gives concerts of operatic and other music several times during the year.
Its fully staged production for 2016 will be Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” to be performed in October.
Although based in Peterborough, its singers come from a wide area. and rehearse on Friday evenings for most of the year, with extra rehearsals in the run-up to productions.
