ET READER Elly Pratt wants help identifying a triangular-shaped aircraft seen flying over the area recently.
She says: "I am wondering if ANYONE in the Peterborough area saw the mysterious craft that flew over Yaxley at approx 3.30pm going east over the fens on Friday (July 25)?

"The craft was completely triangular (not like pictures I have seen of a stealth aircraft) was camouflaged colour on the underside (not black as previously been reported recently over the Midlands).

"It was flying in cloudless skies at approx 1000ft  VERY slowly and virtually silent.

"I am looking for folks who may have taken a photograph of this craft so that I can pass it on to a London based UFO group."

I believe the plane Ellie Pratt saw was the Vulcan previously renovated and now flying in air shows etc.

It was at Waddington for their airshow which was the day it received it's airworthiness certificate and has some involvement with Marshall's Airport at Cambridge

Vulcan XH 558 is the only current flying Vulcan in the world.

I will send pictures under separate email.

Regards

Trevor Smith

The Vulcan XH 558 would have been on it's way to Lowestoft Air show.

My father was an engineer on this plane in the late 60's and early 70's, it is great to see it in the air again.

The Vulcan is the one that bombed the Falklands and has been restored to flying condition.

how sad it's no longer recognised by some; sign of the times I guess

Hi this is Elly Pratt

Can a Vulcan fly as slow as a blimp? Also is it virtually silent when it flies slowly?

We got hold of pictures of the Vulcan online. My husband is still insisting the is not 100% sure this is what he saw!

Just telling you like it is..... I have emailed RAF Duxford just waiting for their response, to see if the Vulcan was out flying about at the times we saw this craft.

I can clear this one up for you. It was indeed the Vulcan Aircraft you saw. It overflew RAF Wyton at approx 3.25pm on Friday as part of a Families Day display and headed towards Yaxley / Peterborough on its way out so you would have seen it around 3.30pm. The aircraft can be very quiet and can fly quite slowly when required. End of mystery! The Vulcan to the SKy campaign needs your help to keep this historic aircraft flying - more details can be found on their web site - www.tvoc.co.uk.

We will see Scamp, as I explained in my previous posting my husband can not 100% confirm that is what he saw. Still waiting to hear from RAF Duxford as I do believe or have been told that is where this aircraft is housed.

Not much point talking to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford as it's not their aircraft. Duxford hasn't been an RAF station for years. The Vulcan is privately owned and is based at Bruntingthorpe near Leicester. I suggest you contact them - details on their web site as given in my ealier posting.

There is a Vulcan at Duxford and a Victor Tanker both are static displays.
The Restored Vulcan can never land at Duxford as the runway is only One and a half miles long being cut in half by the M11.
Besides that the runway was not built for heavy aicraft B17's where never stationed there for this reason. Duxford's B17 Sally B being 10 tons empty can land and take off. The Sally B is a flying memorial to the 45,000 American Air Men who died over Europe in WW11.
Duxford dates from WW1.
