WEDNESDAY UPDATE 1PM: A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called at 7.18pm on Monday, October 6.
"A man said he thought something, possibly a plane heading towards Newborough, had fallen from the sky.

"A crew from Dogtshorpe were sent out to the scene, in Hodgson Avenue, Werrington, to investigate."

The call tuned out to be a false alarm and the fire service believes the resident may have been dazzled by the lights from the fair on the Embankment.

TUESDAY 6PM: REPORTS have been coming in that a fireball was seen in the sky over Peterborough last night (Monday).

One Evening Telegraph reader in Werrington said he had seen a flaming ball moving across the sky just after 7pm, before it broke up.

Another called the fire brigade after seeing the aerial phenomenon - and a fire crew turned out to Werrington to investigate.

Reported in the National Press today that an asteroid exploded over Sudan in early hours of yesterday morning - may have been this before it blew up?

Probably just the lights of the fair reflecting off the clouds thats dazzling the swamp dwellers. If you catch them out of the corner of your eye they make you double-take.

I watched the spotlight from the fair on Monday from near Newborough. It was moving over the cloud before spliting into a pattern and then going back to a single beam again. Hardly a fireball, but then some people only see what they want.

What a waste of the Fire Crews time!
