FOR the second night in a row, Ferry Meadows played host to thousands of women united by a common goal.
More than 2,500 runners, joggers and walkers took part in Peterborough's second Race for Life to give Cancer Research a cash boost.

They embraced loved ones as they left the course, clutching bottles of water and goody bags, their medals glinting in the evening sunlight.

The popularity of the event had led organisers to put on an extra night and as racers arrived, pinned up on a simple blue mesh wall at the entrance of the car park were the poignant notes that the previous night's runners had left to inspire those who followed them.

Pink notices displayed on women's backs told their own stories of loss, but there were also messages of hope from survivors.

The distinctive purple inflatable start / finish arch was notable by its absence following yesterday's collapse due to the high winds in Ferry Meadows.
